On the steel bodies the finish is a powder coat, which is a genuinely hard layer rather than paint, but it is still a layer. Darker saturated colors hold their look longest against scuffing because the coat and the metal underneath are further apart in tone only when the coat is broken, so a chip reads as a bright dot. Mid grays and tans hide the same chip almost entirely. Stainless has no coat to chip in the first place and simply picks up fingerprints.
On the flasks the color lives in the silicone bumper while the body stays clear, so the finish choice is about grip and visibility rather than wear. Light bumpers stay cooler in the sun and are easier to find in a bag, dark ones stay looking clean longer.
