Stainless is the honest version of the product. Instead of a powder coat, you get the 304 stainless steel body itself, which puts it in a different visual category from the fifteen painted finishes. The cap system, the vacuum wall and the dimensions are identical to every other unit in the family.

Notes on this one

No coating to chip

A painted finish can chip; a bare metal one cannot, because there is nothing sitting on top of the substrate. What it will do instead is take on a patina of fine scratches that dulls the brushed grain over time. Some people consider that a flaw and buy black; others consider it the point and buy this.

Fingerprints are the trade off

Brushed stainless shows fingerprints, and that is the honest downside of the finish. They wipe off with a dry cloth and the grain hides them better than a mirror polish would, but if the piece is going to be handled constantly by people eating with their hands, a matte color is the lower maintenance choice.

A neutral for a mixed set

Because it is not a color, Stainless goes with every other finish in the range without a decision. In a household that already has a Navy, a Coral and a Magenta in circulation, the stainless unit is the spare that belongs to whoever is visiting. It is also the one that looks least out of place in a kitchen full of appliances.
